About this campaign

Baltimore, Ohio is home to the Victoria Opera House and the Victoria Players Children's Theater (VPCT). Since 2017, VPCT has rehearsed and performed in the newly reopened Victoria Opera House which was built in 1905 and closed in the 1960s. Celebrated as Twin Cities for hundreds of years, Baltimore's unique town structure reminds us of a saying in the 2015 production of Hamilton: An American Musical. But, while it may be "quiet uptown," it's definitely noisy in The House.

The VPCT is a committee branch of the Baltimore Downtown Restoration Committee (BDRC). Your donation today will help us rebuild this local children's theater.

In October of 2019, the treasurer of the BDRC found that more than $10,000 was missing from the VPCT account and filed a report with the Baltimore Police Department. After years of fundraisers and hard work by children and families across Central Ohio, the VPCT was forced to cancel all further shows and almost shut their curtain for good. A committee of parents and community members fought to keep the organization afloat and went into 2020 with their heads high only to get knocked down again as theaters across the country were forced to shut because of the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, this caused the investigation into the misappropriation of funds to be delayed, and the case is still currently being investigated by the Ohio Attorney General's office.

Even though the theater was shuttered in 2020, the children still persevered by producing a nationally recognized virtual musical, Super Happy Awesome News, and they partnered with another local community theater company, Millersport Community Theatre, in a virtual Duets event. Then again in 2021, they performed virtually in the musical about poetry, Could You Hug a Cactus? All of these musicals can be seen at www.VPCTheater.com.

While they wait for their case to be won, the VPCT has been approved for three shows for the 2021-2022 season, but they need to raise funds to pay for these shows before they can announce their exciting news to the public. Your purchase today will be a start to rebuilding, and we thank you for your generosity and support of the children's theater.

VPCT has also taken preventative steps by adding more layers of protection to ensure all funds are used for the intended purpose of furthering the children's theater.
