About this campaign

The Women’s Leadership Initiative and 14 other campus organizations are looking to raise awareness and funding for this essential local organization.

Why the Women’s Opportunity Center? Nearly all of us have personally felt the detrimental impacts of COVID-19 over the past year. However, research has demonstrated that COVID-19 has had a significantly more detrimental impact on women in the workplace than men. In September alone, four times as many women as men dropped out of the labor force, which equaled around 865,000 women to 216,000 men.

Here in the Ithaca community, resources intended to assist women with employment opportunities are facing funding challenges. The Women’s Opportunity Center works to “lead women to the pathway out of poverty by providing them with individualized career counseling, training and removing barriers to become job-ready and find employment”. After experiencing drastic lapses in government funding, the center was forced to lay off 8 employees in September and surrender their Syracuse office space. Now, they must urgently raise $30,000 to continue to provide support for the local Ithaca community. We hope that you will consider supporting us to provide much-needed assistance to our local community. To buy a tote bag, please visit our other link! You can also donate money directly to the organization through this page without purchasing any items.
