About this campaign

Red, white and blue. Speed, splendor and glory. The story of America’s Flagship, the SS United States, is a story of the nation’s confidence, pride and ambition. The largest, sole-surviving, and greatest ever American ocean liner smashed the transatlantic speed record using only two-thirds of her power. It’s a record that has stood the test of time. Against all odds, America’s Flagship remains proudly afloat, and with your help, we can still save her.

Together we can do this! Show your support for the SS United States today by ordering this extraordinary limited-edition t-shirt, designed by the Conservancy’s European Chapter Chair Mario Alvarez-Garcillán.

This original design features the vessel’s primary transatlantic ports of call: New York, Le Havre, Southampton and Bremerhaven. The central image was inspired by a fabric featured in First Class staterooms aboard the ship, originally designed by prolific female interior designers Anne Urquhart and Dorothy Marckwald. Color coordination was thoroughly studied aboard the SS United States, and colors and patterns were chosen by Urquhart and Marckwald to achieve a bright, ultra-modern look, moving away from the ornate styles of older liners.

The SS United Conservancy is seeking your support to help cover the ship’s basic expenses for the remainder of the year as redevelopment plans advance. This majestic “Lady in Waiting” offers a remarkable preservation and redevelopment opportunity: With over 500,000 square feet of unique space, the ship is ready for conversion into a spectacular historic, waterfront destination. The Conservancy is also hard at work building an extraordinary collection of art, artifacts and historical documents from America’s Flagship to be displayed in our future ship-board museum. Your support will enable us to continue building and curating our collections, while also developing exciting new digital exhibitions.

The SS United States Conservancy, a national non-profit organization, is committed to saving America’s Flagship, the SS United States. The Conservancy raises public awareness and financial resources for the maintenance, restoration and ultimate reuse of this iconic vessel and works to ensure that the fastest ocean liner ever to cross the Atlantic will remain an inspiration for generations to come.
