About this campaign

While fund-raising for a cure, Team Race for Rachel is givingmembers of the ALS community a chance to express themselves and raise awareness for this awful disease.

One of the hardest parts of living with ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease is the isolation it causes. People with ALS (pALS), their caregivers, and loved ones know the pain of being stared at, especially if a pALS is using a wheelchair, communication device, or breathing machine. Often, pALS are treated as though we lack intellect and understanding. It's time to share the truth about who we are and why ALS must be stopped. Share your story with everyone you see with this simple t-shirt.

How to Use the Shirt:
On the first (shortest) blank line, use a fabric pen to write in who in your life you are advocating for (even if it's yourself). For example, my husband will write "my wife"

Use a fabric pen to fill in the rest of the lines with abilities ALS has stolen. My husband will write "danced ballet, spoke three languages, taught 5th grade."

All together, his shirt will read: "Before ALS, my wife danced ballet, spoke three languages, taught 5th grade. #DefeatALS/"

Wear this shirt with pride. You can even slide it over the back of your wheelchair!

Rachel Doboga is a writer, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a survivor. Before before being diagnosed with ALS in 2015 at age 28, she loved teaching children about the rich world of literature and storytelling, from Harry Potter to Hamlet. Now, despite being confined to a wheelchair and losing her ability to speak, she is a fierce warrior in battling her disease. Rachel continues to fight through her writing and fundraising for those who need a voice. Rachel and Ducklingsjpg

Rachel is my niece. We are doing a fundraiser in Northern VA in her honor from Oct.1-Nov.19 that will involve multiple raffles and silent auction items. Spread the word! Let's send ALS to the list of curable diseases, or gone forever.

Our daughter, Rachel Doboga, was diagnosed with ALS June, 2015. As Rachel says, we are choosing hope over fear. Hope comes with both donations and awareness. This was her creation and we cannot be more proud of her advocacy for ALS.
