I agree that the intersections are very impartont. I know only about sociology through knowing people like you, Tessa, but I find that this perspective has really permeated how I work in community development in South Africa. I am constantly surprised at how little of that perspective other people in my field know, especially where community development intersects with politics. Families in all shapes and sizes are stretched in South Africa, trying to hold together some notion of security in the midst of violence and the HIV/AIDS epidemic, to mention only two challenges. In many ways they bear the brunt of the challenges we face but also many powerful solutions and coping strategies. There would be a lot of value in, for example, bringing the intersection of psychology and sociology to the fore of public discussions. Instead of blaming families, how could we differently support and learn from the caregivers in our society? It's a very relevant discussion within a global context and would really benefit community development. Thank you for your blog post and for the questions you posed.
