"This photo was our group picture in the hotel lobby in the Rose Hall Resort in Jamaica W.I. This was our first reunion with 23 in attendance from all over the USA. We also used this event as a community service project, where we donated clothing, shoes, and school supplies to the people in the village of Diamond District in Clarendon, Jamaica. This is in a remote area on the island of Jamaica where the people have no indoor plumbing, thier cooking is still done on wood fires outside in the yard of the homes and the people are extremely poor but rich in spirit. Our family traveled 3 hours from the hotel through the mountains, on unpaaved roads to host a celebration for the people of the village which included food, activities, sharing of stories, and the donations. Our family is from this village dating back to 1898. We haven't forgotten from where we have come and wanted to give back to those that are still there." - Geri (Jul 17, 2009)

I am very proud to be from the District of Diamond it was very emotional for me to return to the home I lived in as a child. We were able to visit the school my sisters and I attended in the town of Rock River Clarendon. Our little piece of Jamaica may not be as modern as other parts of the island, but it will always be our home. ERIC

SANKOFA! "Sankofa" teaches us that we must go back to our roots in order to move forward. That is, we should reach back and gather the best of what our past has to teach us, so that we can achieve our full potential as we move forward. Whatever we have lost, forgotten, forgone or been stripped of, can be reclaimed, revived, preserved and perpetuated. I am so proud of my family. Nicky

Feeling hot, hot, hot in Jamaica. Hot family reunion, hot fun in the summer sun with Bob Marley's music every where reminding us of our roots and responsibilities to our brothers and sisters. One love to all. MNO
