Vitamins are considered to be food by the FDA. With food, it's asmeusd that the claims are correct, until proven false. With drugs, it's asmeusd that the claims are wrong until proven correct. While the FDA is not actively pursuing the truth in herbal/vitamin claims, there is a National Insitute of Health Insitute doing investigations into the validity. There are prescription vitamins, but these are normally used in extraordinary circumstances or need to be given as an injection. You can find prescription vitamin B12. There is a prescription for a complex of B vitamins.
