"Every year, Far Rockaway Community Church of the Nazarene's Youth Ministry, New Generation for Christ, hosts their annual "Youth Fest". This three day event consists of a Friday Night Concert, Saturday Morning Breakfast, Workshops, Field games and a BBQ and then a Sunday Morning Service. The great thing about it is that all events are FREE and open to the community. "What started out as a work out program for a friend and I turned into organizing a 5K in honor of my mother-in-law who is battling ovarian cancer. We were told that a good turn out in our small rural community would be 30 people. Well over 150 people joined us in raising support and running for ovarian cancer. "Running for their Lives" as we called it. This picture is a group of the eight of us who helped organize and get this event to happen. "Kevin's Team ran (and some walked!) the GE/Petit Family 5K Road Race in honor of Kevin Sheehan, a fellow runner who is battling Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a rare, degenerative, invariably fatal brain disorder. It affects about one person in every one million people per year worldwide; in the United States there are about 200 cases per year. (It was an extremely hot morning, but thankfully, we were wearing our CustomInk wicking T-Shirts.) We walk/run the GE/Petit Family Road Race every year to support the Petit Family Foundation. (Dr. Bill Petit was a childhood friend and is now a professional colleage.) Here's a little history on the Petit Family Foundation: The Petit Family Foundation honors the memories of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, Hayley Elizabeth Petit, and Michaela Rose Petit by continuing the kindness, idealism and activism that defined their lives. The Foundation's funds are given to foster the education of young people, especially women in the sciences; to improve the lives of those affected by chronic illnesses, and to support efforts to protect and help those affected by violence. After a home invasion on July 23, 2007, Jennifer Hawke, Hayley Elizabeth, and Michaela Rose Petit tragically lost their lives. Hayley, and later on Michaela, were dedicated to community service and charitable giving, especially with the MS Society in support of their mother's illness. After their deaths, the Foundation was created as a means of continuing on their work and spirit."
"Every year my mom, aunt, and I do the Susan G Komen 3-Day for a Cure and to raise the $2300 goal per person we hold our annual "Beer for Boobs" Fundraiser at the KC Hall in Moorhead. Our slogan for this year was "Fight Like a Girl." Custom Ink allows us to make merchandise that was of great quality and easy to sell to raise the money we needed. This year we raised over $3000 at the event that will go towards the Breast Cancer 3-Day. We will walk 60 miles in 3-days to help gain awareness and take a stand against breast cancer. "Every year, a group of nearly 50 people get together to camp in the great outdoors. We have tons of fun, drink, play volleyball, lay on the beach, and dance in the campsite bar at night. This is a picture of almost the entire group in front of the DJ stand at the campground.
