"The Run For Life 5K came about as a project for a group of juniors at Coppell High School. All of the money raised went toward the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honor of our dear friend Jonah, who committed suicide back in October 2012. "Ashlee Thomas passed away on 6/5/13, just 3 days after her her 23rd birthday. Ashlee was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer; Ocular Melanoma in July 2012. Team Ashlee is a group of over 150 family and friends that came together for a bar stroll through Federal Hill and ending at Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles. This event took place on 6/2/13 which was Ashlee's birthday and National Cancer Survivors Day. "This photo of Team Ari was taken at the finish line, after we completed the ODDyssey Half Marathon in Philadelphia, PA on June 9th, 2013. Team Ari was formed after our dear friend, Ari Johnson, committed suicide this past February. No one even knew he was struggling. Ari's friends and family decided to turn this tragedy into action by running in his honor (Ari was a huge sports fan, so a run seemed particularly fitting) and raising money for Active Minds, a suicide prevention and mental health awareness organization that aims to fight the stigma associated with mental illness and encourage help-seeking. In less than 3 months, we raised $62,824 for this organization in Ari's name. Our hope is that this money will ensure that no one else has to experience the tremendous loss we did, and no one struggling has to struggle alone. As for CustomInk, you were amazing to work with throughout this process! Your staff was so friendly and genuinely interested in our event and the cause we were running for. Because we had people joining our team up until the last minute, I had to repeatedly call back and change the numbers on the order, and you could not have been more patient and helpful every time. It was truly a fantastic experience working with you guys and I will DEFINITELY be using CustomInk in the future, as Team Ari intends to make this run an annual event! THANK YOU!"
