"We were a team to walk in the "Walk to Cure Diabetes" on behalf of our little girl Mindy who has had Type 1 Diabetes since she was 7. This was our first JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) fundraiser for Mindy so we were excited to get t-shirts and do the whole shebang. The walk was cancelled due to weather so we went to breakfast instead and did an "Eat to Cure Diabetes". It was great fun to show off our matching shirts to everyone around! "This event was the JDRF walk to cure Juvenile Diabetes, on September 11, 2011. We participated in this walk because my little brother Jakeob was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 11 years old. So for the past two years we have participated in this walk to help further the knowledge about diabetes and to help donate money to research. "
"This is our second annual Walk to Cure Diabetes. We walk for our two sons: Aidan, age 6 and Collin, age 4 who both have Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. 55 kids and adults walked at the Oakland Zoo this year, raising an unbelievable $10,635 to donate to the JDRF and their mission to find prevention, better treatment, and ultimately a CURE for Type 1 Diabetes. The teams captian is 13 year old Taylor Smart, hereself a juvenile diabetic, who organized the team several years ago.
