"We are the 2007-2008 St. Augustine Girls Basketball team and we had these shirts made for pre-game warm-ups. We nicknamed our church St. Augie and what could be better than having angels as your mascot. "This photo was taken just before the Closing Ceremony of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer New York, a 39.3-mile Event that took place October 6th and 7th. This Avon Walk was the largest ever...the Event's 3900 participants raised $10.2 million! The Avon Walk Youth Crew was a pilot program in New York this year, allowing young people (ages 10-16) to participate and experience the entire Event. This program suggests that young people are capable of contributing to the Event, can get an enormous amount out of the service, and can enhance the experience of all Walk participants--as the Youth Crew says, "we're too young to walk, but we're not too young to care." The pilot was so successful that there will be a Youth Crew in all 9 Avon Walk cities in 2008...thank you Youth Crew!"
"I organized a team this year for the 2007 ALS Walk in San Diego. My friend Dan next to me in the wheelchair was just diagnosed with ALS in Sept 06, so this was our 1st of many years that we will have a walk team in his honor. To date, our team has raised over $5000 for ALS. It was a beautiful day down at the beach and it was a terrific experience. The walk was the morning before all the terrible San Diego Wildfires started, so it was nice to have everyone together in such a positive enviornment when everyone's spirits were high. "We participated in the JDRF Walk for a Cure in Hershey PA on Sunday October 21st. Our 11 year old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes just 8 months ago and it's been a tough road for our family. Our daughter decided she wanted to make a difference and spread awareness about Juvenile Diabetes so we formed a family team and participated in the walk. Our team, Sherylyn's Sunshine, raised over $1800.00 and the walk raised over $187,000.00!"
