2026 California Condor Release

Thirty years ago, six California Condors took their first wild flights over Vermilion Cliffs. This September, we celebrate that milestone the same way we always have — by setting more free.

This anniversary is a moment of both pride and purpose. Ninety-three condors now soar over Arizona and Utah — a flock that grew from just six birds and 30 years of unwavering commitment. But lead poisoning remains the single greatest threat to full recovery, but we continue to meet that threat head-on, with unprecedented monitoring and treatment efforts, and through the North American Lead-Free Partnership, a growing movement of hunters and conservationists voluntarily choosing lead-free ammunition to protect wildlife they love.
