Happy 9th Birthday Finn Finnigan!
NO SHENANIGANS! Finn Finnigan will turn 9 yrs old on June 18, 2026. To celebrate we have chosen Finn for our latest T-shirt design and spokes-cat for our fundraiser!!
Our little shenanigans brother, skateboarder, and surfer boy wannabe has moderate hydrocephalus!! Finn doesn’t have a lot of outward neuro signs other than a head bobble, also known as intention tremors, instead his hydro signs manifest through some maladaptive behaviors. Finn can get overly aggressive at times and he can get highly anxious and hypervigilant, which causes him to mark around the house. To combat all of his symptoms, he was prescribed Prednisolone, Omeprazole and Prozac years ago. In February 2024, Finn was also diagnosed with periodontal disease and had to have a full mouth extraction on Feb. 20, 2024 when medications did not bring about any improvement in his mouth.
Finn also has significant skeletal malformations. Our prior neuro team identified in our SHAHS cats, that with every case of hydro, our cats were also presenting with other physical genetic malformations or diseases/disorders and they determined that Hydrocephalus likely causes a second concomitant disorder, malformation or congenital defect. In many hydro animals, that concomitant issue may be obvious and able to be diagnosed and treated, but sometimes we never know what those issues are.
Finn presents with many very obvious skeletal malformations:
He has an unequal number of ribs on each side of his body.
Both his front legs have Radial Agenesis: the radius bones are missing, the ulna and elbows are deformed, and he only has 4 toes on both front paws. This causes no discomfort or pain. Finn can run, jump, play and climb like a typical cat; he is just differently-abled.
His tail is a mess with fused, elongated and gapped vertebrae in many places, and his tail also is shorter than it should be, with a right angle smack dab in the middle of his tail.
But no matter how differently-abled he is, we love our Finn Finnigan just the way he is!!
