2014 6 Points Sports Academy Tikkun Olam Project

6 Points Sports Academy community will have a 5k walk/run during each of our three summer sessions to raise awareness and funds for food security in the local Greensboro community.  By purchasing a t-shirt you are joining us in the local fight against hunger. We hope our entire camp community - campers, faculty, staff, coaches and leadership will have a shirt to wear the day of the 5K; as well as share this site with their friends and family to spread the word.  

With the beauty of 6 Point's Sports Academy facilities and surroundings, most of our campers and families do not realize that Greensboro is located in one of the most food-insecure parts of our country. Our involvement in this effort truly makes a difference. You can proudly wear this shirt!  

More about our partner Out of the Garden Project - Kristy and Don Milholin’s children attend Morehead Elementary School, where they noticed several children who were food insecure. Kristy and Don felt called to help make a difference in these children’s lives, and so in August 2009, they started the Out of the Garden Project in their home around the kitchen table.

The Milholin’s began personally supplying 10 families with a small bag of food each Friday so that those children and their families might have something to eat over the weekend.  What began in 2009 helping 10 families with a small bag of food has now grown to the largest organization of its kind in the Piedmont Triad.   Out of the Garden Project currently provides (with the help of 400-600 volunteers/partners each month) 900 bags of food each weekend to 50 elementary, middle, and high school students and their families.

With Out of the Garden Project’s rapid growth, the C3 Church of Greensboro donated their warehouse to the Milholin’s.  As a result of their generosity, Out of the Garden Project now has the space needed to store, prepare, and distribute the bags of food needed each weekend.

In addition, the Out of the Garden Project provides mobile food pantries to food deserts within Guilford County each month and will distribute more than ½ million pounds of food this year to hungry school children and their families.
