About this campaign
Addy & the women and children of Pedegal, Peru need your valuable assistance to help purchase yoga supplies and to continue the health and nutrition awareness promotion in this small rural community.
Addy Jimenez Haga, a dedicated
and inspiring Peace Corp volunteer is raising funds to promote yoga, nutrition
and health awareness in the small rural community of Pedregal – located in the
Piura region of Peru. Addy has been diligently working and living in Pedegal
for 15 months. There is not much focus by the local government on health education
and preventative health care services So,
Addy started teaching yoga to a few women as a way to connect to the Community
while promoting health awareness in a safe environment; where local women and
children can practice and connect with themselves and each other. Here, the students learn the asanas,
meditation and self awareness. One young four year old boy named Angelo, after completing the warrior pose, proclaimed “me siento nuevo” – I feel new. Their practice
of yoga has helped the students with their self confidence, health and spirit. The current conditions of the makeshift studio
is spartan at best - there are cement
floors, no mats, no mirrors and limited lighting.
Addy is looking to raise funds to purchase yoga mats, paint murals on the studio walls and continue to promote health awareness through community functions. In honor of my uncle, who has been involved in Peace Corp for many years, we both practice yoga and because Addy is an amazing young woman that I met at the gym several years ago.
