Adopt A Husky, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to finding new homes for stray, abused, abandoned, or otherwise homeless purebred Siberian Huskies. Evolving from a small group of caring individuals in September of 1998, our organization has expanded to include Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana and the Pacific Northwest, placing more th 1,900 Siberian Huskies in loving and permanent homes.
Siberian Huskies are high energy, gregarious, independent, and intelligent animals that were bred to run, and as a result, many of the dogs end up in shelters as strays, or are given up to shelters by owners who just don’t want to be bothered training them. Adopt A Husky, Inc. works with shelters and animal control facilities from Minnesota, Wisconsin and down into central Illinois, our organization takes these abandoned dogs, places them in foster homes where they are evaluated for temperament, nurtured, and provided with top medical care.
Every dog that enters our rescue is spayed/neutered, receives all vaccinations, is microchipped for identification, tested negative for heartworm, and provided with heartworm preventative during the season. Our organization has never refused to accept any dog based on the expense required to bring them back to health. Our most costly medical expenses come from car crash victims (broken legs, jaws, pelvises, hips), pregnant mothers, heartworm positive cases, abuse cases (such as one dog set on fire), genetic/birth deformities (such as hydrocealus, deformedimbs and epilepsy), infectious diseases such as blastomycosis, and puppy-mill shutdowns with severely malnourished, sickly dogs. We have received several dogs in need of emergency surgery due to huge cancerous tumors, gunshot wounds and abscessed teeth just to name a few. We average over 50 dogs in foster care at any given time with a continual waiting list. Our foster homes provide the food, toys, treats, and most importantly, the love that these dogs so desperately need. We have no paid employees and exist enrely on privatand corporate donations.
Due to the high cost of specialized veterinary care for these dogs, we have fundraisers at various times of the year in order to raise the necessary monies so we never have to turn any dog away because of their medical expenses.
