Each time I've found myself saying it just can't get worse, somehow it does. Each time that I think the good people are prevailing over those that are cruel, I read about stories like Ava's. I get angry, I lose faith and my heart breaks when I think about the cruelty and pain this poor dog has had to endure. I learned Ava's story yesterday in an email we received and once again, my heart just broke and I cried. She was found in the backyard of a home in a crude "fight kennel" (pictured here), littered with trash where she was slowly starving to death. The renters living in this home admitted that they tried to fight her, but Ava is not a fighter. Sadly, her body is riddled with scars which makes me picture this kind, non-aggressive girl trying to fight daily literally for her life. Ava is only 2 years old and yet has suffered so much at the hands of the cruel, heartless people that did this to her. When approached, she is friendly, gentle and holds no grudges despite what has happened to her. After all she has been through, she was then scheduled for euthanasia and there is no way I was going to allow that to happen. Ava deserves to know the love and kindness people can show her. She deserves a loving family to watch TV with and a soft bed all her own. We will make this dream a reality for her. Ava however needs a lot of help with her care and so do we. She walks with a limp due to an injury to her leg which we want to have looked at immediately. Ava is also heartworm positive and will need treatment, as well as a dental consult for her broken, fractured canine teeth which I'm told may need to be removed Never again will this dog suffer and we will find her the best home imaginable but her road to recovery will be a long and costly one.
