About this campaign

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. Your contribution gives AFSP the funding needed to create a culture that’s smart about mental health through education and community programs, develop suicide prevention through research and advocacy, and provide support for those affected by suicide.https://afsp.org/take-action/give-a-gift/

Mental health challenges can derive from a variety of sources, and the authors of Balance Like a Pirate have all been affected in one way or another by loss due to suicide completion. Awareness around mental health challenges and the AFSP's focus on suicide prevention and support for survivors is also important in our work with students and families. In #BalanceLAP, Sarah opens up about the loss of her brother to a suicide completion in 2014.
