About this campaign

Hi everyone!

My name is Mikaeel Martinez Jaka. I am Vice-President of Crew 786 and a Life rank Boy Scout in Troop 163 and I am asking for your support for my Eagle Scout service project.

My plan is to construct a 400-foot walking trail through the African American Burial Ground for the Enslaved at Belmont. I will also be laying down pavers to demarcate the graves.

Located at the southeast intersection of Belmont Ridge Road and Route 7 in Ashburn VA, the three-acre property was used by enslaved Africans of the Belmont plantation as a gathering place and as a burial ground. Constructing a walking trail through the cemetery will allow visitors to have access to an important part of American history and will allow people to pay their respects to the people buried there.

My goal is to uplift the cemetery as much as I can and to do my part in honoring those who sacrificed so much to build our country. Your support for this is greatly appreciated.

Please consider purchasing a shirt or a tote bag, or by making a direct donation, to fund the needed supplies:

* fifteen tons of gravel
* 4x4 wooden borders
* metal stakes
* 400ft x 4ft groundcloth
* pavers

If t-shirts or tote bags aren't your cup of tea, please feel free to click on Buy/Donate to show your support with the donate-only option. Also, please share this campaign with others -- your family, friends, and faith communities -- before all campaigns end on March 29th!

Thank you for your consideration,

Mikaeel Martinez Jaka

** PLEASE NOTE: Per BSA policy, all funds raised will be disbursed by Custom Ink in one lump sum check directly to my unit's sponsor, the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS Center), which is a 501(c)3 organization. ADAMS will retain these funds in an account designated exclusively for funding this project. ALL funds that remain after my project is completed will be distributed to the Loudoun Freedom Center 501(c)3, trustees of the African American Burial Ground for the Enslaved at Belmont. Please consult your tax advisor with any questions about tax-deductible contributions. **
