Biden is Fine!

JOE BIDEN IS FINE!

Listen. The American condition right now is abysmal. 27,000,000 (27 million) Americans have no health insurance. The average American has about $40,000 in personal debt (not even counting housing payments). Trump blocked funding for Planned Parenthood, where millions of people get their health care. GLBT rights have been rolled back with astonishing speed. The Southern Poverty Law Center reports that hate groups have risen 30% -- THIRTY PERCENT! -- since Trump's election (whereas the number had fallen consistently during the Obama administration). Unemployment is the highest it has been since the Great Depression. As of this writing, 162,000 Americans have died from COVID in roughly five months. There have been 5,000,000 (5 million) confirmed infections. This all could have been prevented, but our current president refused to even acknowledge a problem was on its way.

Progress hs lways been made in a jagged line of fits and starts, and we are currently in a serious downward zag on an otherwise upward line. That's a critical moment. The only way to make the world better is to first get clear on how the world is. Four more years of Trump won't propel us into the revolution; it will threaten our democracy, possibly permanently.

Joe Biden is an experienced politician who worked under a highly competent president. He has a level of humility that is appropriate for the job, in that he will appoint people who are actual experts in their fields. This is a vastly underrated part of leadership, but a critical one, if not the central one. A good boss oils the gears so everyone else can do their job well. Right now, the guy in that position is a sociopath who doesn't believe in experts, and literally doesn't care if you die. If you aren't going to vote for him, he probably HOPES you die in the next three months. Literally. The president of the United States probably wants you dead.

We MUST get Joe Biden elected. Doing anything else is holding millions of Americans hostage in the hope that we can bargain our way into a revolution. That's not the right thing to do. It's hurting everyone around you for the bragging rights of being able to say you held your ground. It's telling the stalker that his victim is hiding in your basement, so you can hold your head high that you haven't lied. It's selfish.

When we say Joe Biden is FINE, we aren't mocking him. We aren't joking. FINE keeps the world running. Fine gets you to tomorrow, and right now, tomorrow isn't a sure bet.

If you're SUPER EXCITED about Joe Biden, amazing. I am happy for you and have no interest in dampening your enthusiasm. I'm speaking to the people who are like me -- the people who I might motivate BECAUSE they are like me -- they want something better for America, and it hurts to have to wait. But we take our responsibilities seriously and are moved by fellow radicals who refuse to sacrifice others' needs for the purity of our voting record.
