About this campaign

We're thrilled to team up with The BASE this Giving Tuesday.

When you order a Dominican flag shirt, thanks to a generous donation from the sports bar Game On!, 100 percent of your $30 donation will go to the nonprofit in Roxbury, Mass.

For each additional $20 donated to The BASE above the $30 cost of a shirt, you will receive one individual entry into a drawing to win two Red Sox tickets and a spot posting Ks at Fenway in 2023! Donate $100, receive five entries.

VIDEO: NESN's Jahmai Webster posts a "K" then talks to the K Men about their campaign for our city's kids

The BASE leverages the power and passion of baseball to transform lives of Boston’s youth, providing pathways to higher education and productive citizenship for student-athletes. It operates a premier urban youth academy that offers exceptional athletic training and competition combined with academic and career support.

Our goal is simple: raise funds and awareness for our city’s kids — and help build a movement of citizens committed to their success.

The Boston K Men phenomenon began 24 years ago, when Pedro Martinez joined the Red Sox. At every home game that Pedro pitched between 1998 and 2004, the crew — mostly teenagers — plastered K signs symbolizing his strikeouts on the back wall of the Fenway Park bleachers.

Pedro always gave back to the Boston community, and we want to carry on that tradition by investing in our city’s youth and the people and programs that support them.

All Boston K Men official gear is designed by artist Matt Tavares, a longtime K Man and now a New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of many award-winning children’s books including Growing Up Pedro.

Visit bostonkmen.org to order your original K Men shirts and hats and then help us spread the word about our ongoing campaign for The BASE by sharing this campaign with your family and friends.

ThanK you!

For every additional $20 donated to The BASE above the cost of a shirt or hat, participants may submit one individual entry into a drawing to win two Red Sox tickets and a spot posting Ks at Fenway.

The drawing will be held in the fall, so order your original K Men shirts and hats or donate today.

HISTORY
BLEACHERSpng
K is the symbol for strikeout because it is the last letter of the word “struck,” as in, “most batters who faced Pedro struck out.”

After Pedro left the Sox, the K Men migrated from the bleachers to their current perch above the Green Monster, posting Ks each season for the team’s ace pitcher.

Today, the crew records strikeouts each time Chris Sale takes the mound at Fenway.

While “The K Men” is the group’s official name, it is a bit of a misnomer. The K Men believe in equal opportunity, with representation from men, women and children.

The K Men are committed to using their role within Red Sox Nation to promote local charities each season.

Your donation will help talented student athletes find their own pathways to success, so please pitch in today and spread the word.

Your generosity and messages infuse our campaign with grassroots energy. We believe in our city’s talent. We’re all in. We hope you are, too.

ThanK you,
Boston K Men

The Base is a great program. Helps the youth to stay out of the Street, and helps the kids stay active and also helps with making a bigger community and not just a center to work on your skills individually.
