This April, I’ll be taking on the Boston Marathon as part of the Mass General Marathon Team. I am running for the bravest people I know: my pediatric oncology patients at Massachusetts General Hospital.
As a pediatric oncology nurse, it has been the greatest privilege of my life to care for children and families facing cancer. Every day, I witness strength, resilience, and courage that most adults never have to summon. These children fight battles far bigger than themselves, and they do it with a bravery that forever changes you.
Through this marathon, I am fundraising to support pediatric cancer care and research at Massachusetts General Hospital. Donations to the Mass General Marathon Team help fund innovative research studies, support clinical programs, and provide resources that directly impact patients and families receiving care within the hospital. This work is essential, not just for today’s patients, but for future children who will one day hear the same life-altering diagnosis.
As a retired hockey player, I never imagined I’d be running 26.2 miles. Training for this marathon will likely be the hardest physical challenge I’ve ever taken, but it doesn’t compare to what my patients endure. They are my motivation to keep going.
I’m running for my past, current, and future patients. For the kids who have taught me what true strength looks like, and for the hope that continued research will lead to better treatments, better outcomes, and brighter futures.
Thank you for supporting this journey and for standing with children and families affected by pediatric cancer. Every donation, share, and word of encouragement means more than you know.
