Bre's Occupational Therapy trip to Nanyuki, Kenya

Two of my main passions include traveling, and occupational therapy. I am excited to be able to learn and practice occupational therapy in an under served area. I will be living and working in Nanyuki, Kenya from July 12-25. I will be working with therapists in local clinics and hospitals to treat patients with various neurological and orthopedic conditions. I know I will meet amazing people, and learn an incredible amount about their healthcare and culture in a short period of time. 
I look at my (short) time abroad as a way to gain a better insight into the world around me. While I am in Nanyuki, I will be living with a local host family. This will be a valuable experience for me. At the end of my project, I hope to return with a better understanding of Nanyuki, Kenya and the people that I have interacted with there.

 I chose to volunteer through an organization called Projects Abroad. Projects Abroad was established in 1992 as a volunteer English-teaching program in Eastern Europe and has since grown to offer a wide range of opportunities in volunteering, interning, and language instruction at 27 destinations around the globe. I will be joining a community of well over 40,000 volunteers past and present that have lent their time and effort to giving back around the world.
