The past 6 months have had a LOT of unexpected medical expenses for us. In December of 2016 I (Jessica) was diagnosed with Graves Disease or a hyperthyroid. It caused extreme heart palpitations and tachycardia. When medication didn't work the doctors suggested radiation therapy. Prior to being able to do radiation therapy I had to do Thyroid Uptake Scans, ultra sounds and lots of blood work. All NOT covered by insurance because we had not met our $10,000 deductible. I really don't even know why I pay $400 a month for health insurance, if they don't pay anything related to what I was going through. Even seeing the endocrinologist was over $200 a visit and visits would only be about 15 minutes in duration just to tell me the medications weren't working.
So when the time came for radiation therapy I was on a no sodium diet for 9 days total. 7 days was prior to radiation and then 2 days was after. I asked my in-laws to fly down from Washington to help take care of my medically fragile child and myself while I did radiation. I was on restricted isolation for 3 days and modified isolation for 2 days after that. On the 4th day after radiation I was in a ton of pain, when I told the doctor they said I developed thyroiditis and needed to be put on steroids...there goes more money for medication. Now it's been 7 weeks and they bill for my radiation therapy came in. Out of over $1000.00 that insurance didn't pay now it's up to us. I don't work, I take care of Hailey. I feel like I can't contribute so I started my own booster.
I remember when my dad asked my why this happened to me and I responded by saying, "I don't know why this happened to me, I'm awesome." So I came up with this simple easy shirt to try and even raise a tiny bit of money to help cover some of the costs.
