About this campaign

Salmon Defense has teamed up with DERT in their tireless plight to remove the 4th Avenue Capitol Lake Dam in Olympia, Washington to restore crucial salmon habitat. All proceeds for this campaign and future DAM SMASHER campaigns will go towards the Native Youth Camp at the Deshutes River and the Festival of the Steh-Chass near the dam sight of August 2018. Our goal is to raise awareness, gain momentum, and support to get the dam removed.

Restoration of the Deschutes estuary would add 260 acres of habitat. This area could give home to Coho, Chinook, and Chum salmon, Cutthroat trout, oysters and freshwater clams. Pacific blue herons, bald eagles, ravens, migratory birds, cormorants and more would benefit as well.

Our Dam Smasher Logo was created by Jeffrey Verregge of the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe who is also the artist of the Salmon Defense Superhero Sasquatch!

I am pleased and excited to see the Steh Chass celebrated as the true founding tribe for our waters here. Thanks to all who are making this event happen. Success to all, let's get the dam out and let Deschutes River run free.
