About this campaign
Ume (pronounced oo-may) is only the second tapir birth in the 120-year history of Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Named by her dedicated keeper staff, Ume means plum blossom and apricot in Japanese. Malayan tapirs are classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with populations declining due to habitat loss caused by deforestation and human development. Parents Yuna and Baku were paired as part of the Species Survival Plan, a program that helps ensure the genetic diversity and long-term sustainability of Malayan tapirs in human care.
Purchase these "Celebrating Ume" tops proudly, knowing that 100% of the proceeds will support animal care at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.

We are happy to support little Ume and all of her friends at PDZA.
We need to support endangered species and let ourselves care about animals as much as we really do.
So excited to see Ume once she's let out! Love the zoo, very glad to live near it
Ume is pure serotonin!
Baby Umi brings me so much joy. Thank-you for sharing her with the world and raising awareness of animal endangerment. Umi is a great ambassador
