Changing The Narrative

We are a high needs schools with amazing students. We are constantly trying to find ways to support our community. One of the ways of supporting our community is undoing structural oppression. The John Muir staff Race/Equity team is examining our educational practices and resources and is in need of funds to do this. The funds will be used to bring in cultural experiences and speakers that will directly influence our work. These experiences will be for both staff to do the work together and for our students to see themselves reflected in our presentations and celebrations. One example of this is bringing in professional Lion Dancers for Lunar New Year for our upcoming assembly. This is just one of the ways to teach each other about our cultures and traditions. Our goal is to implement experiences such as this on a consistent basis as well as allowing staff authentic ways and provide materials to take the work deeper.
