Courtney Hewitt's Miles for Miracles

I am running the Boston Marathon this year in honor of my nephew, River, who was cared for at Boston Children's Hospital just after his birth. River was diagnosed with a rare mitochondrial disorder and required intensive medical attention for over a week. The care he received was nothing short of exceptional. From the doctors and nurses to the specialists across multiple departments, every member of the team at Boston Children's went above and beyond to ensure River received the best possible care during a very uncertain and emotional time for our family.

As someone who works at the hospital, I’ve always known about the incredible work done there, but seeing it firsthand as a family member has deepened my appreciation in ways I never imagined. The dedication and compassion shown by everyone involved in River’s care was truly remarkable.

One of the most meaningful aspects of this experience was the support provided to my sister and brother-in-law. While River was being treated, they were given a place to stay at no charge, allowing them to remain close by and be with their son throughout his care. This generous gesture helped ease some of the stress during such a challenging time, and we are all incredibly grateful for the hospital’s unwavering support.

I am running this race not just for River, but for all the families who find themselves in similar situations, and for the dedicated caregivers who make a life-changing difference every day. We are eternally thankful for the care River received and for the kindness that kept our family close when we needed it most. This marathon is my way of giving back, showing my gratitude, and raising awareness for the remarkable work being done at Boston Children's Hospital, a place that holds a special place in my heart—both as an employee and a family member.
