About this campaign

Get To know Chris Rhyme:

The ophthalmologist walked back into the office with the optic nerve conduction test results because I was having trouble seeing my screen at work and had mentioned numbness in my legs and with a very concerned look referred me to a personal friend who was a neurologist telling me to call him ASAP.

4 hours after walking out of that appointment my wife went into labor with our 1st child.

13 Days after that, on my wife's Birthday and with a 12 day old Son I was formally diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. MS is a condition where your immune system attacks your brain creating scar tissue and potentially impacting anything and everything your brain controls. After stumbling through a long season of suffering metaphorically and literally as I was re-learning to walk and see with corrective glasses I started trying fitness again. I found a methodology called Crossfit and began doing intense (scaled) workouts like MURPH. One serendipitous night, while doing a MURPH at 24 hour fitness I met a stranger whose wife owned a Crossfit Gym called "Glory Bound" and he invited me into this community of fire breathers. After 8 years of telling very few people about MS and doing a lot of Crossfit in my 1 car garage gym I heard that some guy with MS won a "neuromuscular" division at the Crossfit Games which I did not know existed. In August 2022 I started training hard at Watchtower with hopes of going to the Crossfit Games in 2023. God really does give you the desires of your heart when you trust him even with the brokenness, it just rarely looks like you thought it would.

I am profoundly grateful for this gym, the Ogar's, the coaches, and every member who comes each day to find the very best of themselves under the sweat in pursuit of their capacity. That battle is beautiful and the struggle worthy.
