About this campaign
Honoring Mr. Batson: This December, Mr. Robert W. Batson, Sr. will lead the Christmas Parade as Grand Marshal. It’s a fitting tribute to a man who spent about 38 years filling Dorchester County with music, first at Mace’s Lane High School and then as the legendary band director at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. His former students are coming together to march behind him one more time, and every sweatshirt is a way to show how much his legacy still means to us. We also want this celebration to lead to something lasting. Alongside the parade, we are supporting a community petition asking the Dorchester County Board of Education to name the CSD band room the Robert W. Batson, Sr. Band Room, so future generations of musicians will know whose shoulders they stand on.
Shipping: Sweatshirts ship directly to your home once the fundraiser closes, so no pickup is needed. Orders are printed together after the campaign ends, so expect your sweatshirt to arrive about two weeks later, in time for the parade. Please double-check your shipping address and size at checkout. Sizes are unisex, so check the size chart before ordering, and consider sizing up if you plan to layer a coat or jacket underneath on parade night. Ordering for a family member or a bandmate who isn’t on social media? You can enter their address at checkout, and their sweatshirt will go straight to them.
Parade day: Wear your sweatshirt and march with Mr. Batson’s band in the Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 5, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Every alum is welcome, whether you still play or haven’t touched your instrument in years. Bring your horn, sticks or flag if you have them, or simply march with us and cheer on our Grand Marshal. December evenings get chilly, so dress warmly under your sweatshirt and wear comfortable shoes for the route. Meeting location and line-up time will be shared closer to the date, so make sure we have your email when you order. We can’t wait to see Mr. Batson’s band together again!

My band teacher in HS was one of the best..it would be such an honor to name the band room after him :)
Mr. Batson was one of my all-time favorite teachers. He supported and believed in me and my ability, and I will always have wonderful memories of him. I absolutely support the Band Room being named after him!
Had Mr Batson for band in 1977. He was/is a inspiration to all the kids Good teacher. Top notch person. There will never be another person like him, strict when needed. but fun at the same time.
I had the pleasure of being a student under the direction of Mr. Robert Batson! He was an always will be an inspiration to many not to mention an amazing mentor!
