About this campaign

On May 15th, 2015, at the age of 19, Andrew was diagnosed with stage 4 rare kidney cancer known as HLRCC. He was told he had 6 months to a year to live. Facing a rare cancer with no known cure, he built Driven To Cure, along with the help of his family and friends, in order to raise awareness about rare kidney cancers. Wanting to help others, Andrew also volunteered for 7+ different clinical trials while working on Driven To Cure.

Andrew passed away peacefully on April 21st, 2019 surrounded by family and friends at NIH. His last wish was to donate his tissue and kidney to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to further the research of rare kidney cancers like HLRCC. Andrew is helping people even after his life has come to an end, and we can continue to carry forward Andrew's dreams, goals, and his legacy.

FNIH - Remembering Andrew Lee

"By turning his illness into an awareness and fundraising tool to fight his rare cancer and other cancers, Andrew serves as a real-life hero to the children and families of The Inn as well as our staff, volunteers, the rare disease community, and anyone else who has had the pleasure of meeting him" -Jennie Lucca, CEO, The Children's Inn at NIH

“Andrew is an inspiration to all of us. He exemplifies what one individual can do with persistence, hard work and great spirit, to improve the lives of others”-Steven M. Paul, M.D., Chairman of the Board, FNIH
