About this campaign

Evergreen's campus pastor Rev. Jim Getka was diagnosed with ALS last year. With the diagnosis, Pastor Getka has resigned from his position at Evergreen to focus on time with his wife and five children.

What is ALS? Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.

Share your support on Wednesday, January 30th, 2019 at the Evergreen home basketball games in honor of the Getka family. The game admission will be donated to the Getka family. Whether you are able to come to the game or not you can still support the Getkas through a t-shirt fundraiser setup with Custom Ink. All proceeds from the fundraiser will help the Getka's with medical expenses as Jim's ALS progresses.

Jim and his family have continued to show their faith even during the hardest of times. I am thankful for their Christian example to others.
