On November 8th, Zoey had her normal four-month check-up. During the visit, her doctor noticed that her liver seemed large and ordered that she have an ultrasound exam. Five days later on November 13th, the ultrasound confirmed the doctor’s suspicions; her liver was indeed large due to a tumor.
Since then, her parents Whitney and Zach have been staying at the Methodist Children’s Hospital with Zoey as they monitor her and perform more exams. We do know that the tumor started in the adrenal gland and less than 5% has spread to her bones. From everything that has been gathered, Zoey's preliminary diagnosis is Neuroblastoma-a cancer that develops from immature nerve cells. This is a rare form of cancer, so now we must wait to hear back as her biopsies are being further researched. There will be an official diagnosis once they get the test results back, and then they can start a treatment plan.
Even with the help of insurance, a lot will have to be paid out of pocket. The funds will be used towards travel expenses, the insurance deductible, and medical bills.
Zoey is being such a trooper! She has been her usual bubbly and happy self during this time. We know there is a long road ahead for this precious girl and family, so we are asking for any help we may get. As Zoey’s mom and dad are caring for her, lets help relieve their financial burden as much as possible so they can focus on their sweet baby girl.
There is no way to express the amount of gratitude our family has for everyone helping; whether it is by prayers, positive thoughts, and/or donations. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for fighting along Zoey!
