About this campaign
The CCC in Chimaltenango, Guatemala, is a community-based program focused on serving
orphaned and vulnerable children. The children and families served are trapped in a vicious
cycle where 66% of the population of Chimaltenango live in extreme poverty and lack the
financial ability to provide basic needs for their children.
* The average household income
of families served by CCC is around $7-10 a
day.
* One of the most critical needs of these children is education; the average amount of schooling
completed by students in Chimaltenango is only 5.7 years.
* Providing a quality education and healthy support system gives
children the opportunity to acquire the necessary tools to face life successfully and help break
the cycle of poverty for these families.
* Orphan Outreach and their auxiliary WOW (Women for Orphans Worldwide) started working in Chimaltenango in
2012 by first visiting the local municipality trash dump. We noticed that many young children and
teenagers were also working alongside their parents to help bring home income.
* The CCC was established in 2016 to serve this vulnerable population. Starting out as an after-
school tutoring and feeding program it has slowly evolved, deepened, and expanded its services
for the children enrolled and their families.
* Currently, the CCC serves 91 children from 44 families, ages 3 to 18 in four areas (Montessori (preschool age); Primary school age (1st-6th grade); High school age (7-12th grade); University scholarship program)
* A new CCC Montessori Building will open in 2024 with the goal to help the CCC to increase Montessori enrollment by approximately 40% (to more than 50 children)
receiving quality early childhood Montessori education, 2 meals a day and psychological
support. This increase will then allow future growth of the school age programs.
We are excited to have Phase One of the new CCC Montessori Building nearly completed. The new Montessori school building will house open-style,
Montessori classrooms, kitchen, dining area, staff offices, and a sensory playground with landscaping. Orphan Outreach will then be raising funds to help fund Phase Two of the new CCC
Montessori building, including increased operational expenses.
