About this campaign

You can help 10-week-old George with his Megaesophagus veterinary expenses by purchasing a beautiful 20 oz travel tumbler or two or three (they make great gifts!), making a quick monetary donation, or both—right here on this page. A message from George...

Hi, I'm George!

I just arrived at Nebraska Dachshund Rescue. I'm 10 weeks old and weigh 3.4 pounds. I should weigh more, but I haven't been able to keep down much food, not even my mom's milk. This week, my foster family took me for a barium swallow (YUCK!), and they were told I have Megaesophagus. That means my esophagus is really big and stretched out (dilated) and it doesn't help move food to my stomach like it should (lack of motility). I will have several out-of-state specialist visits and more tests in my future. In some cases, surgery can help. If I'm a good candidate, I will have the surgery. If I'm not a good candidate, I will be medically managed for as long as my quality of life is good. Right now, I have to say that my quality of life is awesome. I do have to sit up to eat and stay upright for 20 minutes afterward. I don't mind a bit and even fall asleep while my foster dad holds me upright. He says I'm a power napper and says it is super cute. I'm told there will be trials with different medicines and different types and consistencies of food (I'm down for that!). The biggest concern with my condition is aspiration pneumonia, which would mean trips to the emergency veterinarian for respiratory support. It happens at some point with most megaesophagus pups, and if it happens to me, I will be brave. I thank you very much for reading my story and for making a quick contribution to my care if you can.

Puppies hugs and kisses to you, from me.

xoxoxo,

George
