Believe the Gopher Tortoise should be proposed as the national standard and mascot for COVID behavior - they come out for food and hunker down until the environment is safe - and they do not complain!
The Environmental Conservancy of North Port, Inc. recently purchased its first lot for permanent conservation that has one active burrow on it. We hope to acquire/conserve many more to help our City tortoises stay wild and sta safe in their burrows.
Gopher tortoises need all the support they can get. Helping them and their habitat / land helps ourselves. We need to preserve all the natural areas we can.
As a Life Member of the GTC, I support everything the Gopher Tortoise Council does to protect this unique species and all of its commensals.
I have 50 or so burrows on my land and am passionate about them.
