Gemma and 37 More Dachshunds Need Your Help

The good news is that we have rescued 59 Dachshunds so far this year, with 38 of them coming in just since May 1st (including 6 soon to be born to moms who arrived pregnant). We are close to surpassing our total of 62 rescued in 2024 in just the first 6 months of this year. Due to the soaring cost of veterinary care and the exceptionally poor condition of most of the dogs, this is also the bad news.

You can help by purchasing one (or more) of our fun summer color Funder t-shirts, donating, or both. It is quick to do and 100% of donations will go to veterinary care for the dogs. Because veterinary expenses will soon top $50,000 for the year so far, the dogs could really use your help.

Just last week, we rescued 10 from a hoarder in mental crisis with the authorities working to secure 6 more. Some are so emaciated, like Gemma, that the vet gave them a body condition score of 2. Many are anemic, full of worms, bacterial infection, and ill at both ends. Our veterinarians and foster families are working to turn this around as quickly as possible. Gemma (above) is a frightful bag of bones. She has had to have food and water slowly introduced to her starved and dehydrated body. Most are less than 6 months old, so we are hoping they rebound quickly.




In addition to these sweet souls, we have also taken in dogs from a breeder shutdown (hence the pregnancies), several other breeder dog intakes, and an alarming number of families who fell on hard times. We are currently working on an IVDD case, multiple bladder stone operations, 5 who are so scared of humans that they are nearly feral, and the list grows each day. They all have one thing in common. They are grateful in their own way for their wonderful loving foster families, healing touch, nutritious food and even small comforts like a soft blanket to lay their weary heads.
