Hemet FFA Guide Dog Puppy Program

Almost two years ago Hemet FFA at Hemet High School in Hemet, CA. Took on the daunting task of starting a Guide dog Puppy program from scratch. We did it! We chose to start the program through Guide Dogs for the Blind. We started out small with only four puppies, and began training them to be good canine students and be a part of the Hemet High family. Today, a year later those same dogs are attending classes everyday with their student and are very successful. Though they are almost ready to return to Guide Dogs for the Blind to attend final training, we are making the most of the time we have with them. This August Our FFA Chapter was asked to take on four more puppies. We did so gladly, however with the strain on the budget with more mouths to feed we are going to need some help. I cannot tell you how much pride I have in our puppy program and my students who have taken the time day and night 7 days a week to care for this dog in training. They will be required to return the dog at the end of the process but they know they have done something tremendous for the life of another individual.
