My name is Katie, and I was originally diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, at age 17 during Christmas of 2018. Ewing’s Sarcoma is a rare type of pediatric bone cancer. Over the past 5 years, I have relapsed 3 times and undergone some of the most difficult challenges I have ever had to face. To date, I have received: 105 doses of radiation, 40 cycles of chemo (300+ doses), 82 units of blood, 16 surgeries, an autologous stem cell transplant, and spent countless days in the hospital in Reno and in Stanford.

I have also found joy in creating artwork to raise awareness for childhood cancer. You can check out my artwork at: www.katiescollectiveus.etsy.com or @katies_collective on Instagram.

A portion of proceeds will be donated to “Megan’s Mission”, a foundation that is continuing the legacy and mission of Megan Bugg: to end childhood cancer through advocacy and research. Check out Megan’s Mission here: www.megansmission.org

The "Hibiscus of Hope" design incorporates a hibiscus flower and gold ribbon. The gold ribbon is the awareness color for childhood cancer. I created this design to honor one of my best friends, Megan Bugg. Megan fought Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma for 7 years, starting at age 12. Throughout Megan’s brave battle, she constantly advocated to spread awareness for childhood cancer and the reality of underfunded treatment options.

She raised money to help fund research to find less aggressive treatments for childhood cancer. She inspired and positively impacted countless families. Megan asked if I could make a design that incorporated a hibiscus flower and a gold ribbon (representing childhood cancer). Megan always stressed the importance of hope when fighting this grueling battle. I think it was fitting to incorporate the word “hope” into this special design. Megan continues to be one of the most inspirational women in our lives, even after her passing in early March of 2022.

We are ultimately hoping that my most recent stem cell transplant will have cured me of my cancer! Despite all of my setbacks, I have continued to remain positive and face the next steps of my battle. Sarcoma is an extremely underfunded cancer and we need more treatment options!

Thank you for all of your love, support, and prayers. Please keep them coming!
