About this campaign

Addy is forever five but would have been 8 years old on March 2nd. I wanted to do something special to not only remember her as her birthday approaches, but to raise money for Edmarc, a charity near and dear to our hearts. The mission of Edmarc is to ease the trauma of a child's illness or death, and to reduce the disabling effects of pediatric illness, loss, and bereavement on families. EDMARC was there for our family during some of our very darkest days. Addy’s nurse at CHKD was also one of her EDMARC nurses. We met her on diagnosis day and she was in our home the moment Addy left this world. Since then, the bereavement support is still very much there, and we’ve learned that EDMARC doesn’t go away just because Addy is gone. They cared for our sick, dying child and continue to care for our family as a whole since her death, over 2 years later. We could never thank them enough or repay them for being such a huge blessing when we needed it most.

Addy was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a cancerous brain stem tumor on January 18, 2017. DIPG is terminal and treatment options are almost none. Less than 1% of children survive this monster. It does not respond to chemotherapy, and radiation only offers a honeymoon period for the child, and then symptoms return and often progress quickly as it grows more aggressively. Addy fought for 7 short months and won her battle on August 29, 2017. She won, because DIPG died with her body and it couldn't hurt her anymore.
