About this campaign
Their names carry a remarkable journey. Your gift helps engrave them forever.
In 1867, 435 Freed Men, Women, and Children did what the engineers of a broken system never anticipated. They petitioned the Freedmen's Bureau for transportation — casting themselves into a journey of profound uncertainty — boarding rail cars to Charleston, crossing the Gulf aboard the "Adele" to Galveston, and pressing inland by rail once more — arriving in Falls County, Texas as architects of their own future.
Now History itself will witness their Descendants say their names — etched in stone, in perpetuity.
