Culture Lab started with a community of artists looking for a place to create, connect, and belong. Launching in October 2016 as The Plaxall Gallery inside a converted 12,000-square-foot industrial warehouse, the space quickly evolved from a local gallery into a massive cultural anchor for Western Queens. Becoming Culture Lab when the pandemic hit and dark venues threatened to silence New York's music scene, our team adapted and transformed our 18,000-square-foot outdoor parking lot into a dynamic, open-air performance venue. Today, Culture Lab hosts dozens of exhibitions every year, theatrical productions, and our signature free summer outdoor concert series. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit built by artists, for artists, and dedicated to keeping the cultural fabric of LIC loud, local, and accessible to all.
