About this campaign
Kira has been accepted into a program in Monterrey, Mexico, where she will receive intra-arterial infusions to help treat DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma)--an aggressive brain tumor for which there is no known cure. These treatments are quite costly, so the family is turning to the kindness of friends to help fund them. Help give Kira the gift of hope and spread awareness of DIPG with your purchase!
Kira Brown-Augdal was diagnosed with DIPG just before her 8th birthday in 2016. The standard treatment for the tumor is radiation plus chemotherapy, but these alone do not produce a cure. Kira's condition worsened around last Christmas, until she could not move, swallow, speak, or see. Then, somewhat miraculously, Kira started having a reversal of her symptoms, and she has partially regained many of her previously lost functions. These wonderful changes prompted her parents to look into treatments around the world, and Kira was accepted into a clinic in Mexico, where she will receive chemotherapy delivered directly to the tumor site.
The infusions cost about $20,000 each, and Kira will need one every three weeks for a year. In addition, the family will incur travel and lodging expenses.
