About this campaign

Jim has been through more obstacles in his 37 years than most of us will ever face in a lifetime. He has approached all challenges with a positive mindset, determination, and perseverance. A little over two years ago, Jim worked the overnight shift as a police officer where he was employed full time. In early January 2019, he had day surgery for a procedure aimed to help treat issues related to his cystic fibrosis. Due to immediate complications from the procedure, Jim spent the next 6 weeks on life support before undergoing an emergency double-lung transplant in February of 2019. During his hospitalization, he also experienced two strokes that affected his dominant side. After 10 weeks in the hospital, the severity of his illness caused Jim to spend an additional 5 weeks in rehab to rebuild his strength. During this time, he worked through tremendous amounts of pain and difficulties to regain his ability to walk again and recover gross and fine motor skills. After being discharged to home, Jim continued the difficult work that was started in rehab, spending hours each day in his home gym. He eventually went on to achieve his goal and returned to work full time!

Unfortunately, due to recent complications and through no fault of his own, Jim has again found himself in need of new lungs. If you know Jim personally, you know he is a person who will always be there to help you whenever you need it. Through all of Jim's obstacles, he has never asked for help. He is currently on 27 different medications, makes frequent visits to Mass General, and has mounting medical bills. After being hospitalized for 10 of the last 11 weeks, Jim is now home. While he waits for his second lung transplant, he remains on oxygen 24/7 and is unable to work. We have decided to start this fundraiser to help raise awareness, while also giving support to an amazing guy who has never hesitated to help others, including the public that he has proudly protected and served over the last fifteen years working in law enforcement.
