About this campaign
On June 30th, members of Hui Mālama Makanalua will be placing lei on every known burial site on the Kalaupapa peninsula--to honor all who were once sent to live in isolation because of Hansen's disease. Purchase of a commemorative t-shirt will help to defray lei shipping costs.

As a Native Hawaiian, I was shocked to learn about the treatment and segregation of thousands of Hawaiians diagnosed/misdiagnosed with Hansen's Disease. I was fortunate to visit Kalaupapa and did some volunteer work to beautify burial sites of those who died from the disease. I will not be able to travel to Kalaupapa for the event, but I wanted to show my support by purchasing a shirt and using it here on that day. Mahalo to the hui for making sure that our ancestors are not forgotten.
