Olivia’s Journey to Specialized Williams Syndrome Care

Our daughter, Olivia, was diagnosed at just four months old with Williams Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects about 1 in 10,000 people. Williams Syndrome impacts the heart, development, growth, and overall health. Olivia has a heart condition that requires close monitoring and specialized care.

One of the most important steps in managing Williams Syndrome is being seen at a Williams Syndrome specialty clinic, which is why we are traveling to the clinic at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. These clinics bring multiple specialists together in one place to coordinate care—something that is critical for children like Olivia.

Getting Olivia to this appointment means a 3-hour drive each way, time away from home, and having to miss work, which creates additional financial strain for our family.

Asking for help is incredibly difficult and brings a lot of guilt, but Olivia’s health has to come first. We’re doing everything we can to advocate for her and make sure she gets the care she needs.
