About Lily
Lily was born on May 28, 2010 at 1:49 PM. She was screaming, healthy, and perfect. Micah and I took one look at her, and then each other, and said there was something special about her. Beneath her mop of dark hair and thick Russian eyebrows were big, bright eyes that intently studied everything in their path. Lily couldn’t wait to grow up to be a “big kid” like her sisters and brother.
Lily’s smile, along with her trademark bouncy pigtails, always captivated an entire room. Anyone who saw her just had to smile.
No words could ever really capture the beauty and joy of our little girl. We had 20 months and 19 days with her. They were the best days of our lives, and not just in hindsight. I frequently told Micah that life was perfect, and that no time in our lives would ever be better. We never took a moment with Lily for granted. Every morning, I walked into her room to greet her. I scooped her into my arms and held her tight. I did that every day, no matter how busy I was. I closed my eyes tightly, and thanked God for her.
Lily passed away in her sleep on February 16, 2012. There were no warning signs, no causes for alarm. She went to sleep and never woke up again. We began living every parent’s worst nightmare.
One month later, we received the second worst news of our lives when we were told that no cause of death could be found. We were left with the term Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).
We made a vow to honor Lily’s life and help others in her name. This is our latest effort.
