About this campaign

This year, the Positive Schools Center would like to raise money to fund family enrichment activities at Lyndhurst Elementary School. Lyndhurst is committed to becoming a community leader in bringing families together. Lyndhurst wants to provide safe spaces for parents, families, and community members to feel connected to their children and nurture their relationships.

Your donation will support students, families, and communities in their on-going empowerment movement and continuance to provide a positive school climate for their children. A positive school climate leads to healthier, happier, and emotionally secure children. With family and community input & support, the children will thrive!

The following is a sample list of family events Lyndhurst would like to put on this year. Your donations can help provide the planning materials & supplies to bring them alive!

1. Incentives to increase attendance at their Monthly Families & Community Meeting such as meals & childcare
2. Literacy & Math Nights
3. Family Enrichment Nights: The Princess Dance (father figure-daughter dance), Eco-Friendly Fashion Show, Lights in the Sky Space Event, and a Community Chili Cook Off

Join me in becoming a true change agent to help Lyndhurst continue to bring positive vibes and community love around our children.

The Positive Schools Center (PSC) was formed last year in response to the alarming rates of African American children being suspended and expelled in the country. Maryland has one of the highest rates in the nation.

The mission is to promote positive, supportive and mindful learning communities. PSC aims to partner with schools and districts to identify and collaborate issues related to school climate and punitive discipline that result in these high rates of suspension and expulsion. PSC works towards alternatives to suspension such as trauma responsive educational practices, and restorative & healing approaches.

PSC defines the following as foundational to a positive school climate:
• Trauma Responsive Educational Practices
• Restorative & Healing Approaches
• Racial Justice
• Social, Emotional, & Character Development
• Student, Family, & Community Voice

PSC believes that by moving forward in creating this solid foundation, a school can transform their leadership, teaching & learning methods, environment, safety, and build more positive relationships within the school walls.

T-shirts will be available to pick up starting January 3rd from Smita at the SWCOS office on the first floor of the SSW building. If you would to pick up earlier (Dec 19 or after) - please email Smita at smita.dey@umaryland.edu before December 14th to coordinate a pick up depending on SWCOS staff availability for the holidays. I will be checking email until then before I'm out of the country on holiday.

For the Lyndhurst community - shirts will be available for pick up from Ms. English starting the week of January 9th.

Shipping the shirt to your home is also an option from Booster.

Because like the shirt says, change is never going to happen if we don't step up and do something about it.
