Maire's Militia Against Chiari Malformation

February 2014 changed our lives forever; our not quite two year old daughter, Maire, was diagnosed with a Chiari malformation. After further testing we discovered she also had syringomyelia, a pocket of cerebrospinal fluid (a syrinx) built up inside her spinal cord. The original plan was to monitor it and hope that she continued to show no symptoms. In November 2014 we learned that we had to change our plan because the syrinx in her spine tripled in size in just five months. December 5, 2014 our two and a half year old daughter had decompression surgery. Brain surgery at just two and a half!! This year and for years to come, we will be walking in the Conquer Chiari Walk Across America. We are hoping to raise at least $1000.00 this year to increase awareness and help raise funds for Chiari research.
