I've been a horse owner for 25 years and two of my four horses were rescued from the kill pen at a local auction house. They each were with me until the day that it was time to cross the rainbow bridge, the oldest living to 36 years old. The main dream in my life was to give them a forever home that they would never have to leave, and I worked as hard as I could to do that for them without a vacation or day off in those years. Having horses is a lot of hard work and a huge commitment, but to see them happy was the best gift that I could ever receive.
As many of you know from my facebook page, last year my husband was very ill and diagnosed with lymphoma. The doctors spoke of putting him into hospice. He was only 45 yrs old at the time, and right before he was admitted to the hospital, I lost my best buddy of 22 years, my horse Cody. The pain is something I can never describe, but that many of you can relate to when you lose the ones who are the reason why you breathe.
My husband was in the hospital for 75 days, and I was alone to keep things together as best I could to make an income when not staying with him in the hospital. Memories of happier times at our little farm, the days of running our Majik Horse shops, and the belief that a miracle could happen were all that I had. In 1999, a year to the day that I had lost my dad, I was told that I had only months left because of ovarian cancer. I'm still here, so in the back of my mind I held on to the belief that if a miracle could happen once, maybe it could happen again. Along with the memories that I held on to, I dared to dream of the future, although it didn't seem like there was any reason to dream without my soulmate.
Not long before my husband's illness, I had also lost my other best friend, my mom. Through this loneliest of times there was still that one thing in my mind that kept me going. A childhood dream of having this place where "unwanted" horses and animals could have a forever home, and a place where maybe kids with cancer and older people who were alone could come to visit and just be happy for awhile. Maybe it would even help heal them. I know that's what my horses and animals always did for me. When I was little I remember making a drawing of this whole thing, and showing it to my mom, she hugged me and cried and I didn't understand her tears. We had done it on a small scale through the years, but in the back of my mind I wished that I could expand it one day.
It seemed impossible because my husband was even too sick to talk, but I dreamed anyway that one day my husband would be himself again, and that we could pick up and be the way we used to be, a little family with our animals. Through the years we had 4 horses, 2 of which were rescued from New Holland Sales, and our rescue doggies and stray cats that somehow found their way to us. We never took a day off or a vacation, worked 19 hour days 7 days a week, and wouldn't have it any other way. We had many other tragedies during this time that maybe someday I can write about, but for now just suffice to say we always managed to get through because we were holding on together. We were not rich money wise that's for sure, but to me the joy of being able to see those happy animal faces was like winning the lottery day after day.
Making a long story short, my hubby is back to his old self, and together we hope to have come up with a way to have a forever home for horses.
But we had to face the fact that our income will never be what is used to be because of the circumstances. Vet costs alone are so very high, one sick horse's care can quickly add up into the thousands just like they do for people. This is where the Booster shirt campaigns and storybook coat giveaways come in!
One of my dear friends had mentioned holding raffles to help us raise money for the farm, which was an awesome idea! I thought yes yes and maybe if we expand on that and offer something that a person can have in case they don't win, that would still be cool, too!
So it's going to take awhile, but we will run t-shirt fundraisers and coat giveaways to help and get started and then to help run the farm! Thank you so much for your support!

There are so many animals that need love and forever homes and I think it's awesome that someone is trying to provide for the needs of these animals.

I love the commitment to your cause. We are vegan and believe all creatures need to be as free as possible, not to mention loved until the end.

Horses can get very expensive, and many of the abuse rescues stem from people being too poor to care for them properly. These animals need a safe place to go before the neglect starts.
